I got an upgraded stainless steering bar from Marine Tec (panther). The product looks stellar but the instructions aren’t the greatest and it certainly doesn’t “bolt up” as promised. My 300 is set back from the transom making the angles to the kicker somewhat acute (i.e. not straight across). Is that ok or does the bar need to be bent? Will a 1/2″ stainless bar even bend? Did you drill a second hole in the kicker bracket to form a “vee” with the bars in the kit for rigidity? If you have done this, I’d appreciate a picture or PM me with your phone number so I can call you? Its alot to ask, but I hate to take it to a dealer. Might not get it back this spring! Maybe I need to go to another route? This site has the best tech types around! Thanks Dan

You just need to bend into an “S” shape to line up well with both motors without binding when turning from lock to lock. The rod bends pretty easy with a bench vice.

My 250 Yamaha to 9.9 yamaha has a bend to it
It was installed at Ranger so know idea if it was fabricated or
one that was made to fit that exact application
Bending 1/2 stainless would be pretty tough I’m thinking, especially to have an exact fit

I’ll try taking a picture later on in shop to show what mine looks like

    Good luck

I am certain that your old friends at SBC, Eric at Chippewa falls or Brandon at Ramsey would be willing to assist with a phone call ! :]

I hate to bother SBC when I didn’t buy the boat there (although I did buy two other skeeters from SBC and enjoyed their great service) Buying an used boat has its drawbacks. A good time to take it to Eric to and have a remote throttle installed at the same time. Trim tabs next year.

FYI, never an issue Dan… With the $ you saved do the Tabs now !!!! You wont regret it…. Promise !

Also be sure to ask Eric about the steering system we are using today for remote kickers…..certainly a vast improvement from the old days.

I have a sea star with the cable steering because I Have a jack plate works flawlessly.
