Stay Hydrated

Tomorrow is my last day working in the Metro and it can’t come soon enough.

The weather at our new place is typically five degrees cooler, but with exceptions like today and tomorrow.

It’s going to be pushing 100 degrees in the cities, the high today at home is going to be 68 lol

Keep the water cool and keep an eye on you and your co-workers today/tomorrow if you work outside. This kind of heat sends a lot of guys to the hospital if they’re not prepared and not watching for symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke shock

Ya its just nasty out there today. And tomorrow. And Thursday. The dewpoint alone is supposed to be in the “tropical” status.

I saw on the weather at ten last night somewhere not far from home had a dewpoint of 80 degrees yesterday. With a dewpoint that high a person might as well live in a tub of water.

I often hear that its better to drink warm water rather than ice cold water when its really hot out. It doesn’t seem near as refreshing to me, But I guess it helps prevent cramps. I guess drinking ice cold water when your core temp is high can often cause cramping. Not sure if that is true or not.

From what I understand in the training I’ve had over the years, consumed water needs to be not ice-cold (I know, that sounds real formal) in order to process it for use. If it’s cold water the temp will need to come down before it can be put to use in your body.

Room temperature is what is recommended, why, you can drink more and absorption is faster.

    Electrolytes too.
    They help you retain water.
I like pedialyte for hot days and prior to drinking heavily as alcohol is a diuretic.

I never drink ice water on a hot day. I bring a gallon every day to work and leave it out side. Have always done so.
As for work today. Well I’m in a jlg lift at the white bear jail cutting pockets in precast so the iron works can keep setting joists. It’s fu##in hot out.

Wasn’t bad this morning. Able to haul some brush before it started getting nasty. Will try another load tomorrow morning.

Always found it interesting that athletes take salt tablets or drink pickle juice on days like this (along with a LOT of water) but also supposed to help retain water and reduce cramping.

I don’t go out in the woods to cut trees, move brush, etc until it’s below 70 degrees and no humidity in the fall or spring..

On days like this I’ll drink maybe ten 20-24 ounce bottles of liquid at room temperature. Bottle of water, then a bottle of power-aide or something similar, then a bottle of water, etc, etc.

The Mexican guy doing roofs in my neighborhood would have had that place done by first break lol. They get 4 houses done in 1 day some how. Those 4 amigos are some hard working sobs. Makes it hard to complain when I watch them still working after I come home from a 12 hour shift.

Yeah, killing yellow jackets is definitely a bit more exciting today. The heat sure gets them jacked up… Thankfully only had to go on one roof, made sure it was in the am.

On the blacktop in the yard from 7:00 until 6:00pm today. I drank a half gallon of water and a Gatorade before I left the yard to measure some windows over lunch. I drank a full gallon of water and one Gatorade from 12:30 – 6:00.

I used the bathroom in the morning before work, once at lunch, and once at about 4pm before unloading 36’ pieces of steel roofing.

I have a separate washer in the garage for clothes from my summer job and weekend stuff during the rest of the year that really gets dirty. I didn’t even bother with the old shirt and just threw it in the trash instead. Thankfully tomorrow I’m at the other job in the AC, but will be stuck in mind numbing meetings

Can you believe just a little ways up north they arent getting this heat?
If I had known how bad it was going to be yesterday and today I would have worked from the cabin.
