Hoping the more knowledgeable of all things outboard on here can shed some light on this for me. I have a 2001 mercury 90 HP (carborated not EFI) 4 stroke on my pro sport. I have the repair manual for this motor and the attachment is what is stated for the alternator. I noticed while browsing around that it looks like the newer OB’s have more of what I would call a traditional alternator versus this thing. So my question is if it’s possible to replace the original with a higher output one with this type of charging system? Reason being is I’d like to get an onboard DC alternator to charge my TM batteries should my son and I want to do a more wilderness trip where we won’t have nightly access to power (and not have to adjust my electrical usage while fishing too much). Based on the minnkota 2 bank charger you need a minimum 25 amp output, OB as is only has 20 amp output.
I barely know enough to be dangerous when it comes to this stuff so mostly just hoping someone out there can tell me if it’s even possible/safe or if it just is what it is with this style of charging system and I’ll need to look around for a plan B.

if I had your serial number I could tell you if mercury offers a bigger stator amperage wise.
if you want to call the folks I am providing you a link with, they can tell you if they build a higher output one than merc does.
