I heard on the farm show on the AM radio that Iowa and Minnesota are working on drafting an agreement to sell Iowa the 9 bordering counties between Minnesota and Iowa so they would become Iowa counties instead of Minnesota counties. The bill has to be agreed upon and approved by senate, but I found that interesting. Apparently the counties were originally part of the Iowa territory prior to statehood. Anyone in Minnesota hear anything about this?

That was the guy I was listening to. Thanks for posting the link!
January 14, 2025 at 1:34 pm #2310609After reading the article I would say the title of this thread is off a bit. Currently a state senator from Iowa is proposing this. As we see plenty in the political arena, politicians propose things all the time that gather headlines but ultimately go nowhere.
The link posted by hop307 is a pretty interesting read though and does make a good case for those wanting to do this.
January 14, 2025 at 1:36 pm #2310611Like I said, I heard it on the radio. I was not privy to the full details, just wanted to see if anyone had heard the same.

Never say never when Timmy is in charge.
January 14, 2025 at 1:48 pm #2310618Sounds ridiculous. No state gives up land. Although our current administration just might be re tarded enough to do so…..
January 14, 2025 at 1:53 pm #2310620It would allow the MN regime to eject an overwhelmingly republican subset of the state’s vote. It’s not outside the realm of possibility, however improbable it may be.

Guaranteed deer tags every year then.January 14, 2025 at 2:08 pm #2310628Guaranteed deer tags every year then.
Haha, I was just thinking about that. Wouldn’t have to fork over an absurd amount of money to hunt deer through a lottery anymore!
January 14, 2025 at 2:20 pm #2310634Not a chance in hell this happens… Like Suzuki said not going backwards in territory these days.

Well, they are giving away publicly owned land to the natives so never say never.
Highbeeze24Posts: 142January 14, 2025 at 2:26 pm #2310639So Iowa wants to by the bordering counties and Canada wants to by the state. I will be migrating south with the birds before saying O Canada before every sporting event.

Well Canada is about to be the 51st state so that isnt going to happen.

Can we fish the entire rainy river then with just a MN state license or do we need the Canada state fishing license still?

Good luck to him pushing that line of thinking.
Here’s a map of the Minnesota Territory prior to statehood. I don’t think the “they were part of us at one time” argument is going to hold any water because almost every territory once included more than was granted once statehood was obtained.
I give him an A for creative thinking, though.

Hahaha Reef that is a perfect meme!
If that Senator were smart, he’d just have the proposal come from the Iowa Tribal Nation and Tim and Peggy would probably give it away.

January 14, 2025 at 4:48 pm #2310676Maybe if Canadians were led by someone who wasn’t all about everybody else and actually worked to MCGA … they would morph to be part of the so called “blue wall”… remember how that went in November ???
