Who’s going? I used to be an annual trip for me for half a day or so. Haven’t gone since pre-pandemic and kinda craving some good fair food again.

I probably wont go again. Last time I went took the 3 boys and it was over $100 before we even passed through the gate. Its not worth that sort of cash for a pronto pup, cheese curds, danielson’s onion rings and dairy building shake.

We should start an argument about pronto pup vs corn dog however.

LOL its not cheap when you start bringing a family. Can’t argue that.

I’d be curious to hear others’ thoughts on parking as well. The food at the fair can be a lot of fun but I’ve been over that for awhile, as others have said it’s way too much money to spend. However, we’re going to see Jim Gaffigan Tuesday night, probably arriving mid-afternoon. I’ve never gotten there that late in the day so I’m curious what others would recommend for parking as I assume the parking lot may be full.

Try the parking lot on the west side = used mainly by the vendors and booth people. Usually open spots near the entrance just about any time of the day.

I get my fill for one evening a year at the Benton County Fair. Plenty of quality people watching at that one.

My son went with his friends and I told him to get his butt out of there before it got dark. He said “I know”.

amen to that. the costs and crowds are ridiculous. Nothing like spending hundreds of dollars to stand in a line all day and sweat your tail off.

If you want some curds, mini donuts, and a corn dog, your local county fair can scratch that itch without needing to spend $100 before you even get in the door.

Were heading there on Sat. We use to do it every other years. Its been 3 or 4 since out last time there. Love the state Fair. We normally use a park and ride. I don’t want to even think of the mess of parking in that area.

My work used to sponsor a Fair Fun Day where we’d get the day off, free admission, “fair bucks” that were good at most food vendors. We had to stick with colleagues in the morning and there was usually sort of team scavenger hunt, etc. But after a brief Company meet-up at noon, we had the rest of the day to ourselves. That’s the only way I’ll ever go anymore. I don’t mind it when admission and some food costs are covered. Otherwise I have better things to spend my time and money on…

That Benton County fair does get a little sketchy late at night.

I always used the shuttle when I went too. Parking is a B down there.

County fairs never really did it for me. It takes like an hour to see everything at them. I prefer the big tamale.

LOL my Grandpa always had some sort of answer like that when I asked him every year if he was going too. A couple of his better responses were “Why would I want to wait in line for half an hour to take a pee?” or “I’d rather spend a night in jail than go to the state fair.”

Haha I’m sure they would but the idea of that many people shoulder to shoulder just doesn’t excite me at all

My reasons would probably sour this post and I dont want to do that! Have fun at the fair. The food will be wonderful I am sure.
PS- Its a gun-free zone so I’m sure there’s no chance of getting shot…..:)

Its all good, I completely understand that its not for everyone. The responses like yours on the negativity of it are humorous to read!

Different strokes for different folks. Some people are people persons, some are not. I have a buddy who every time I ask him why he doesn’t go to things like the State fair always has the same answer ” Don’t like people ”

The kids like going to see the animals and stuff, but we normally try and be out of there shortly after lunch….on a weekday. We are not fans of deep fried food so that makes a lot of the options limited.

My sister from Tennessee comes in for the fair. She likes it.

Going tomorrow. Arriving late morning. Should be good times.

    Probably dropping $80-$100…big deal.

Nah – way too expensive, way too crowded and parking is a nightmare.

We went to the carver county fair a few weeks ago and with my 3 kids that cost us $200 alone for about 4 hours of food and rides. I imagine the state fair would be double or triple.

I do enjoy a good county fair but no state fair for me

Nope. I do feel a little guilty not taking my kids as I’m sure they would enjoy it and probably an experience they should have at some point.

However like others said I’d probably spend hundreds of dollars to take the whole fam and a very high chance I’d be frustrated with the crowds and stressed keeping an eye on the kids. I took them to the Game Fair a couple weeks ago and they thought that was cool- more my speed too.
