The State Fair and most County Fairs, have gotten away from their original intent. The Fair was to show off and represent the best of what your County or State was producing. From Chickens to Cattle, Garden goods to Baking goods. Throw in some fun rides and fun snacks to keep the kids interested long enough for mom and dad to check out the barns and produce. Now it seems to be about making money on parking. coffee Times were simpler for sure, but one thing constant is change.

Flask allways ran out too soon for us.The slim tall plastic 750ml bottles of rum, vodka,or whatever your flavor is are easy to conceal.People were allways asking us how we managed to be so drunk off of fair beer.

Well if going through security was the same as us, they don’t care what you have… We all beeped and they sent us on our way without any questions or secondary checks.

Going to see Tim McGraw tomorrow, can’t wait!

My daughter and I saw Tim McGraw at the fair in 2014, I think. Great show. That’s the last time I was there. Before that it was in the late 90s or early 2000s.

Not the fair, but the last game of the last year the Gophers played at Memorial Stadium it was about 20 degrees. A friend of mine and I smuggled in a case of beer hidden in the arms and legs of military “flight suits”. It was a great time indeed.
I beaned Bucky Badger with a snowball from 28 rows up on the second throw which got a huge roar from the crowd. As he continued around the stadium he endured a barrage of snowballs from other fans until the announcer instructed everyone to “Stop Throwing Snowballs!!” One of my prouder moments.

Wow, I’m over 60 years old and have never been called that before. I wonder what you call people you really don’t like. It was normal college kids’ activity.

We didn’t drink them all. I won season tickets that year from Perkins and made a lot of acquaintances at the games. Passed many of the beers out to them.

Had a great time at the fair today! Smallest crowd I’ve ever seen which was great. Parked a block from the entrance, ate way too much, had a few beers, listened to Tim McGraws band warm up, and it was about $140 for 6 hours of quality entertainment for me, my wife and 3 year old.

Werm it sounds like we had very similar days…we had our 3 and 1 year olds and doing the math on the way home we figured we spent about $138, how’s that for close?

I didn’t think it was too packed either, especially when we got there at 10:30. Could you get much better weather for it? Now if my wife ever decides she doesn’t want to go again I’ll be done with it myself, but it wasn’t a bad time. I saw a few Ohio State shirts too, must be some fans in town a day early wanting to see what the fair is all about.

Wife had written my phone number on 3-year-old Jack’s hand before we left, which I thought was a good idea. Turns out there’s a booth somewhere where you can get a free bracelet and put your info on it in case a kid gets separated, thought that was pretty cool.

Sounds like you guys had a good time. Sweet.

Dan, got me thinking- I wonder what the numbers are for people who actually come from out of state to attend the MN state fair?

For the love of reptiles!! Okay, I seriously hadn’t been to the State Fair in YEARS… but our love for reptiles just couldn’t keep us away! 🐍🦎🐊🐉

Dan ( @pailofperch ) and I braved the crowds and confusing parking last night for a quick visit to Monty’s Traveling Reptile Show! The reptiles are so cool, but they wouldn’t let me inside the tanks to play… 🤷‍♀️😃 It wasn’t crowded at all and I only got yelled at by one sassy lady whose family member quickly “shhhed” her before a brawl broke out. chased
I’m hearing the attendance numbers are low this year, which was nice having some room to walk and available benches to munch on our soft pretzels and corn dogs! 😋😋

    confusing parking

That was a little weird, the State Fair lots weren’t full but they weren’t allowing anyone in. And the south bound exit off Snelling to Como was closed off, so that was a no go too. Not sure why my wife wanted to try and find a lot spot, as we always end up parking in someone’s yard. $20 and we were literally a block from the front gates, perfect!

After working at the fair for 14 years straight, but only visiting 2 times in the last 15 years, It was fun to take an afternoon to go for a stroll with Sharon and check out a couple sights. The Reptiles were great, and I nearly had the guys convinced to let Sharon wrestle the alligator. jester
It was all good. I’d have paid 3 times as much to watch Sharon knock old ladies down on the bridge…..
