Starweld 16dc tabs

I was going to update another thread with a description of how my weight list was fixed with tabs but it seems better to do so as a new thread.

I have a starweld 16dc that would list to port when on plane. The list was more pronounced when I had a single passenger that leaned outboard on the gunwale since you can’t really move one person around the boat too much unless they sit in the floor… Which isn’t an option I wanted to explore.

So the quest to find a fix began. My dealer told me they would install StarCraft performance tabs for free to fix the issue but I wanted to do adjustable tabs so I could correct the list on the fly and not have to worry about it. The performance tabs are angled aluminum just screwed in and are an inch long by a foot wide.

Enter Bennett Marine. After talking to them I decided to go with the Bolt 124 kit. They only stick out 4″ so I guessed that they would clear my kicker.

After installing them I can say that the list is totally fixed with just a touch of tab and my kicker motor clears the tab and actuator.

    Lessons learned
    1) remove the swim platform when mounting the tab on that side. Holy hell that complicated things having it mounted
    2) install a battery isolation switch. The bci8000 rocker switch with indicators has lights that stay on full time
    3) my 6hp, long shaft Yamaha fit fine but I sweated it out until I saw that it worked. However, a setback motor mount would have fixed that
    4) you’ll need to move your transom straps to the side of the trailer
    5) the swim ladder will need to be secured above the actuator so that it won’t slam down on the actuator cable

    That’s about it… Questions?

    Good luck all!

Last pictures. Sorry, I’ll take a picture of the whole transom next time I have it out if people want to see it. Also sorry that the boat is dirty as a pig’s rear end. I usually, normally, mostly wipe it down after every outing but slacked this time.

Looks good! How much did they cost you?

About $340 for the tabs and actuators

About $250 for the fancy rockers with indicators

About $100 for battery switch plus mounting hardware, cables, fuses, etc

    About $50 in drill bits

    About $15 for 5200 sealant

So… About $750 all in. I could have knocked off $100 with the basic rockers with autoretract but no indicators and about another $100 more than that with basic rockers and no autoretract.
