My new Interstate starting battery keeps going dead on me. Last time I was out I only had the Helix 12 on and after fishing for a hour my low battery alarm was going off. It had a full charge on the on board charger before I left. I don’t want to get stranded out on the lake.

I would use a volt meter and check the voltage at the battery to see if they are both the same. If that is low also I would have the battery checked with an amp load at a parts store. Might have a bad battery

My Interstate 27 series, black box went bad this summer after 1 1/2 years use. Charge it all night, and would only get to 12.5 or 12.6 volts, measured with a volt meter, don’t remember if it was 12.5 or 12.6. Replaced it with an Odyssey 31 series. When getting the Odyssey I told them why, and sales person asked if it was the black box
or the green box interstate, as they were seeing alot of the same problems with the black box. They also sold Interstate there.

A portable power pack jump starter would be a good back up plan. I keep one in my boat. If not a pair of jumper cables.

Black box, you mean the whole battery is black. That is what I have in the boat. We are an Interstate battery dealer and waiting for him to come back and load test it. Thanks for the replies.

I have narrowed it down to a battery draw. If I unplug my GPS pinpoint data link to my Motorguide trolling motor the draw disappears, is there a way I can check the GPS cable?
