Stand placement

Am I totally over the top if I start putting up stands already? shock My wife seems to think so, but I was doing some clearing around one of my plots at home last night and found a great spot to put a stand. I got a heck of an “eye roll” when I came walking out of the barn with a stand in my hands. I put it up, cleared some shooting lanes the took the brush and blocked a trail to get them to funnel closer to the stand.

Maybe I am over the top having this on my mind 365 days a year, but it makes ME happy. Going to hang another tonight and get some shooting lanes clear for that. Might as well let the deer get nice and comfy with the changes all summer while they are munching on my bean food plots. Beats sitting on the deck day dreaming and coffee

You’re good. I almost put out a stand last month when I was up north but ran out of time. I marked the tree though with a flag to come back later.

Would you believe it? Some people actually do things like golf instead !

I bought $500 of treated boards 2 months ago and just getting around to build some stands since I didn’t have the time earlier.

It’s a passion and you should the eyes roll when I spent the $500 and then more on fertilizer and then more on seed and then more on a new fertilizer spreader, etc, etc…
Actually, she didn’t since I’m lucky and the wife enjoys it as much as I do.

It’s an addiction! But a good one to have if you’re going to have one!

I usually put my stands up once all the trees are in full bloom. That way I know for a fact that my shooting lanes will not be impaired come fall. I have 20 or so acres in 601 that is surrounded by homes. When I do all the prep early in the season, most residents have no idea of what i’m doing. Once fall comes, no one even knows I am hunting, and I like it that way.

Deer hunting is 3rd on my priority list and I still do all this early in the season…Once the walleye spawn slows down on the river, I have about 2 weeks to get it all done before fishing kicks back in. Then once archery opens up, I have a week to fill a tag before the first waterfowl season. Then once the first split starts, I have time to go back for another before the second waterfowl starts…my wife thinks I’m crazy with my hunting schedule…

To sum it up, not over the top at all!

got the second one up and cut the shooting lanes, got down on the ground and looked up and I may or may not have gotten carried away whistling Hoping for a little regrowth before September doah

I never cut lanes until closer to season and most of the leafs have fallen. To many times I have cut lanes with leafs on and when fall comes around it looks like I’m sitting in the middle of nowhere.
