How often do you see stands left on WMA or WPA public land? I was a bit surprised to see a few ladder stands this weekend while out pheasant hunting. I thought this was not allowed?

It’s also an illegit way people try to “reserve” the best spots on public land. Throw up a stand and then you can sleep in knowing people will see your stand and avoid that area because they know Mr. Late Riser will eventually show up and ruin the spot when he drags his butt in at sunrise.

Call it in. Public land, public rules. If they want permanent stand locations, then do it the legit way.

Most WMA’s you can not but I’d check before calling it in (NW it’s allowed). And they are allowed to use them, just not left over night…so my question is, how do you know they aren’t taking them down at night? Are we assuming?

    I don’t recall seeing they’re illegal on WPA’s thou…???

I thought they recently changed the laws to allow the stands to be left out during the hunting season but since they were on public property anyone could use them? not 100% sure though.

Edit nvm just read on the DNR site most WMAs do not allow except NW.

If they are left illegally on public land and are considered public property. Is it legal to take them yourself?

If you illegally park on a public street, can I have your car?

Speeding and not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign are also illegal and I bet we all broke them before we got to work this morning…

I just find it very ironic how people pick and choose which laws are worthy of following and which can be thrown out the window or easily justified.
Im not playing better than you but not being able to hang a portable stand needs to be done away with. Tagged with owners name and first come first served is how it should be.
