Stake pockets on angle iron utility trailer

I have a 5×10 MCT trailer. It’s angle-iron, like the Carry-on trailers from Lowes. I want to add stake pockets so that I can add a rack for my fishing kayaks and still have the floor space for gear. I would like them on the outside so that it doesn’t encroach on the load space. I can find the stake pockets, but how do these work with the angle-iron ? The top rail is angled out away from the interior of the trailer. So the pocket would sit underneath the overhang of the rail. I’m sure someone has found a way to make this work, but so far all my internet searches are coming up empty. Any suggestions ?

Take it to a local welding shop and explain what you want, they will fix you up.

I have the Carry On brand XD version of that trailer.

You need to “block” the outside of the angle iron with box iron or otherwise fabricate a flat to then weld the stake pockets to. Depending on which stake pockets you get, you also need to weld a bottom on the bottom pocket so the stake cannot slip down.

I did this with a spare tire carrier that I welded to the outside of the trailer. I had to block out the outside of the angle to provide a flat area to then weld the spare tire carrier to.
