Anyone have a favorite place in downtown St. Paul to eat? Belletaine mentioned a sloppy Dago at DeGidios. I’m putting that on my list to visit, looks pretty nice. I’ll most likely hit the Gopher bar for coney dogs.

Cosetta’s is a mandatory stop, even if you eat elsewhere you can bring something home that is better than 99% of Italian restaurants. Lot’s of good options in St. Paul these days, if you don’t mind going just down the road to Lowertown The Handsome Hog specializes in Bourbon and all things Hog…so yeah. If you prefer a dive bar with great food, go to Half Time Rec off of Lexington (not by the Xcel center, but worth stopping on your way in or out).

Cosettas is awesome, however I can never make it past the pastry counter.

The Nook. No clue if it is close to the ice show or not.

Was taken out to the Snack Shack last time in the cities and it was pretty good. Again no clue if it is close or not as I’m not familiar with much in the cities.

Not that close, but it gets my vote too. Best burger joint around for sure.

    Cosettas gets my vote too.

Shamrock is on west 7th and owned by the same people as the Nook. Can’t go wrong at the gopher bar for a Coney Island. For a sandwich Cecil’s deli in Highland park.

All good suggestions, I had lunch at the Gophers today.
I grew up in Highland Park and there are many neighborhood bars with good food. Skinners on Randolph is a dive with killer pizza! The Nook has great burgers and is less than fifteen minutes to the show.

    Have fun!

There’s a new one called World of Beer a few blocks from the RiverCenter on Sibley Street. They had tons of great beers to choose from and the food was awesome!

I forgot about Cecil’s, used to live a couple blocks north right after college. That is good.

Any suggestions for breakfast for people in town early? I’ve enjoyed the Day by Day cafe south on 7th and Mickey’s, but that was almost 20 years ago now? If someone wanted to be brave and maybe wait in line, they might try and squeeze into Al’s diner in dinkytown. It’s right next to all the new apartment towers. smirk

Next time anyone makes it over to the Gopher, try and ask for a fork when they serve your food. They love that! jester

How high end are we talking here and how adventurous are you? Are you of Norwegian heritage whereby even the use of black pepper as a spice will cause instant death?

Just stick to your gut and go to Gopher! Nothing better than a mediocre hotdog and some smack talk mixed with foul language.

Agree. Go to the Gopher for a stiff drink, good food elsewhere.

The Hot Chicago there is my favorite.

I’m definately sticking with the Gopher. I’ve been hitting it regularly with a buddy during the warmer years. I figured I could work folks for some favorites for another day, maybe help out other hungry folks in town for the show.

If anyone is looking for Thai Food, Ruam Mit is good. 6-7 blocks NE of the Rivercenter.

Great thread! The Nook was highly recommended by a co-worker, but I don’t know if it will work logistically? We’re staying at the Embassy Suites downtown. The Gopher sounds interesting. This will be our first expo. We’ll be there when the show opens tomorrow, and we’re headed home midday on Saturday.

I have to throw the Bulldog out there to make a stop at. Great burgers and dogs.
