How the hell do people justify these prices for a GD fishing rod. See some of these in stores for 400-500 like WTF!!!!!!??? Either these mass rod manufacturers are criminal or they’re just taking advantage of the st00pid

To each his own.If someone wants to spend $500 or $50 on a rod or anything else it’s their choice LD.

I think of a good rod like those expensive hammers for framers , an average Joe won’t notice the difference using them 5 times a year for 1 hour . You use them everyday and hold them 8 hours a day . You’ll start to see differences , for me anyway . Would love to jump up to the next tier of rods . Just not in the cards for me … yet .

Nicer things in life comes with a higher price tag. A Geo metro and Ferrari can get you to work… What is being charged for Torzite and carbon fiber frames is the true crime. Just the Fuji Torzite stripper guide is $47.99 for one guide. Same KW guide in Alconite is $5.99. Is Torzite that hard to work with? Torzite came out in 2014. SiC came out in 1981. I don’t get why these materials are so expensive. It has advantages.

I like the hammer example, the top quality hammer for most people (average Joe) is only a bit better, worth it to me? No. So many want ‘professional grade’ how many times have you seen that term? How much more do you spend to get that Ferrari when you could get a very fast car for a lot less?
That said if it makes a guy happy to buy the St. Croix and he has the bucks, their are worse things to throw money at.

The torzite is 10% lighter it says. Really…. on today’s rods I don’t think even an experienced pro could tell the weight difference regardless of how many guides were on a rod A with torztite and an identical rod B with SiC guides, so I think its just advertising hype.

Given the track record I’ve had with guides on rods that I’ve built or had built for me or bought commercially, I’ll bet that I could prove that torzite has its faults.

It’s actually very difficult to get reliable good advice on tackle for muskies when you’re starting out. You walk into Cabelas Bass Pro Shops and see a Predator Musky rod, naturally you think that’s what a musky rod should look like. Nobody tells you that you should be able to cast a two pound bait with a musky rod.

Every rod I have seen has the lure ratting on it? (other than some customs. But you can still look up the blank and find it) I think you posted in the wrong thread. None of the rods Steven has listed for sale is a muskie rod.

I agree Rodwork, I wouldn’t musky fish with them. Mostly smallmouth and walleye. The ultralight I got for trout fishing but just don’t have much motivation to buy a trout stamp and go, so it’s sat in my spare bedroom for 4 years, along with most of the other rods getting dusty.

Funny you should mention smallmouth. I caught a 24 inch smallmouth on a spinning rod loaded up with 20 pound test. I would not fish for bass with 50 pound line.

How many nights would it take to spend $500 sitting in a bar?
    It depends on your priorities.

It’s not stupid to buy a $500 rod or a $7 yo-yo reel and catch the same fish. It depends on your priorities.

I really liked your analogy of nights spent in the bar. So true.
