Thinking about fishing the St Croix sometime soon, but have never really tried the stretch north of Kinnickinnic up to Stillwater. I usually fish it down near Prescott. Anyone have any advice for where to launch from in that more northern stretch? Looks like there is a public launch up a little north of Stillwater on the MN side. Just have no idea how shallow it is currently. Thanks in advance.

That north (boomsite landing) is very shallow getting out to the main chanel. It also fills up very early. Hudson city ramp is always my go-to ramp. You have to pay (I think $10-15?) But it has a decent size lot and never an issue with low water. If that lot is full there is another ramp just to the south a couple blocks that is almost never full and has a nice ramp (not sure how it is when the water is THIS low though)

The St. Croix river is not that low. It is near normal pool. the river in the last 10-12 years have been extremely high. Normal pool levels are around 675.8 to 676.5 at Stillwater. The river is at 675.5 today. I’ve been living on the river 30 years. This is the first time since 2009 that I could mow the low area of my property.

Anyone know if the launch just south of the Hudson lakefront ramp is free? Looks like the Lakefront ramp is $12 for a MN resident so if the other one is free that would be better as long as there are no issues launching with water levels there.

The only free ramp from stillwater to prescott is stillwater boomsite.
Everything else is private with large fees or public with smaller fees.
The public launches it usually makes sense to buy an annual if you plan to launch more than 3x/yr.

No matter where i fish on the croix i still launch in Prescott and boat to the area.

There is a free launch in North Hudson too. It is the Ferry Landing. Parking is pretty limited (6 – 8 vehicles). It doesn’t have a ramp or docks. Would highly recommend only launching if you have a 4X4 and your boat isn’t too heavy (more like a beach than a launch with the low water). It is a better launch to use when the water is real high and the other launches are closed.

Kings Landing (just south of Hudson City launch) isn’t free. Guessing it is between 10 and 15 bucks.

I might have to find another launch than the boomsite if I go out there soon. Hopefully we get another good rain tonight or tomorrow and it starts to come up a little again.

I’ve always launched in Hudson, but never fished it mid summer with all the tuna boats out this time of year.
