Made the jump to the SCV blank in 610MLXF and all I can say is WOW!! The sensitivity is unbelieveable…. Which had me wondering last night as I was out on the river…. The feedback on the rod is fantastic, almost too sensitive (is that possible?) to the point where I felt I was setting the hook too early. Bouncing a jig and a crawler on the bottom and missed at least 5
    fish.

For those that have experience using these rods, do you have to adjust your technique with the SCV compared to, let’s say, an ScIII (Avid)? I was using 6lb Suffix 832. Would mono or Flouro be a better set up?

Looking for advice… I should have left with my limit but instead I left with an empty livewell :-/

    Sure they were fish?

I only ask BC my first experience with a good rod and braid I was setting the hook on every rock and stick I was hitting. Something I had to learn to distinguish.

Joel,I have built myself 6 rods using that exact blank.

I did find that I felt everything and learnt to slow down my hook set, now it is habit.

If I may ask what guides and handle did you build with ?

4 of mine are with Recoil guides(hard line rods) and the other 2(mono) have Fugi guides, all with a split grip handle.

They are truly a sweet blank !!

Glad to hear I am not crazy Trumar! ) I believe it has the Fuji Micro Alconite guides. It’s the stock LXS610MLXF.

When sensitivity goes way up while using this rod and braid, try giving a two or three count after you feel the bump before setting the hook and then just give the rod tip a light “pop or firm sweep instead of doing a Roland Martin.

Hold the jig in your hand, then give the rod tip a light “Pop” and you’ll find that is all that is needed to sink in that hook )

    Hooksets are free.

Tom Sawvell – thanks for the info. Never expected I would have to adjust my technique that much — Good to hear from guys who use them
