St Croix fishing south of Osceola

I’m not very familiar with fishing on the St Croix but want to get to know it. I’d like to launch my 17′ Sylvan at the Osceola landing and fish south. Would that part of the river be safe for me and my boat? I’d like to target walleyes and I’m not sure if there are hidden dangers as with most rivers that I should know about. Thanks for any tips.

Watch the river level gauge and take it slow. I usually see larger boats out there tell the water really drops. The majority of the bottom up there is sand so it is forgiving if you find yourself getting to shallow.

Was out over the weekend with 17′ navigator. Water is still up pretty good. Only had to get out a couple of times to push through spots. If you really want to fish that streach of river you will be limited with a v bottom boat. Bring a flat bottom, canoe or pontoon.

Mid summer water levels can be kinda tricky but like said above mostly sand with a few stumps here and there.the water is up a bit with the recent rain.when it’s not dirty just try and stay in the darker part of the river(deeper) most stretches have a “main” channel that is usually at least a foot or so deeper..

Thats funny. “Most stretches have a main channel that is usually a foot deep”. About a boat width wide to. It is leisure speed up there. If you do get the boat up on plane might want to know in advance where you can come off plane. Coming off plane in a foot or so of water can be tough. Bring something to keep your pee hole clean.
