St. Croix Customer Service Concern

So, after my last posting I’m a little hesitant to bring this up, but I recently did a warranty exchange on a 6’6” mlf Avid spinning rod. I opted to pay $115.00 and upgrade to the Legend Tournament Walleye 7’3” MXF spinning rod. The rod showed up today and they sent me a Legend Tournament Bass rod. I know this, too, is a first world problem but I paid $115.00 for the rod and requested the walleye version as I don’t prefer split grips. I guess I am gonna ask, should I just be content I got a rod in the mail, or would a normal person want what they paid for? Also, I don’t think there is, but is there any difference in the rod blank? Thanks!

I would contact them and find out why you were sent the wrong rod. Clearly its the wrong item.

They might just let you keep the one they sent you and they’ll send you the one you requested.

I can’t comment on how much difference there is between the one you received and the one you requested other than the full cork/split grip.

I would say this is a different situation. Id call them and let them know you got the wrong item. Personally, there is hundreds of rod builders and companies out there that would get you better bang for your buck. A friend of mine has been making rods for a few years now and has disected some of the most expensive gloomis and croixs you can find. He can make basically the same set ups as anyone out there at half the cost

Different animal. I’d contact them and let them know you received the wrong item, and get the right item.

Agree sorry you took some crap the last post, but I would reach out to them and have them fix the error. I would think there has to be some differences between the rods.

I will have to look into custom rods. I did the exchange on the same call as the tip top issue. Maybe I just got a bad customer service rep. I know that, when you provide top shelf rods, the only thing keeping your customers loyal is the warranty and most importantly, the service you provide. I’ll call them over my break and spend my lunch getting this resolved. By chance, who is the rod builder you use and recommend? I am down to three St. Croixs, and the rest of my rods are Loomis NRXs, but the Loomis warranty ain’t what it used to be either.

Get what you requested, if you put it on your credit card ask them for help-they would love to help you. My 2-cents for anyone reading this, put big ticket stuff on your CC they have a great consumer protection ethic for anyone ELSE taking advantage of you.

I would contact them about the current error. I’m sure they will be quick to correct the error. I’ve worked with St croix warranty many times over the years
( mostly due to my mistake ) and they have always been excellent. As far as getting a custom built rod built with the same blank and components for less, I doubt you will. Custom builders can purchase rod blanks direct from St Croix and build you one, the few times I looked into this it was NOT less. Not saying a custom builder can not build you a good rod for less, just saying they can not build you the same rod for less.

I would contact them. They are different blanks unless that has changed.

One can make similar rods to the high-end ones for less. The biggest savings is with the guides. A Torzite stripper guide is around $33. Same guide in SiC is $9.35, Alconite is $4.50, and Fazlite is $3.50. Times that by 8-10 guides and you can see the price difference quickly. I have rods with the Torzite guides and don’t think they were worth the extra money. Sic is good enough. The biggest advantage to custom rods is the balance.

Thanks! I noticed on the new Legend Tournament rods, the guides are Alconite, which I think for a $300 rod is a little cheap.

100% agree. My point was the rod could not be built for less by a private builder using the exact same components. I’ve had a few really nice rods built by custom builder for a nice price. Just with a step back in real seat and guides. Maybe a small step back in the blank as well.

Rosie Customs out of St. James, MN. He has a FB page that you could connect with him on, or shoot me a PM. I tell him my budget, and what I will be using it for and they all have came out great.

The Alconite guides are not bad. I will use Alconite guides with a SiC tip if I am building on a lower budget The tip takes the most abuse. The runner guides don’t take nearly as much stress on most rods. Muskie, cat, or sturgeon rods are different stories.

Too many people abused it trying to get free stuff.

I suppose, but he clearly had a defective rod and sent it in so this just seems different.

I was talking in general. Not this case.
