I hear what your saying Munchie, I think we are talking trolling speeds here.

I was just responding to “whipping a tube” in Kings Cove. But you are correct, everyone is responsible for their wake at all times.

If you tie your boat to a dock in a wake allowed area and don’t use any bumpers (protection for waves)…
Why am I responsible for their negligence in protecting their equipment?
If they don’t use the right knot on a cleat and rope slips due to rocking boat… I’m responsible?

    Doesn’t seem right?

If you beach your boat on rocks and a boat wake damages your boat on the rocks the person who threw the wake is responsible?

I’m not a hell raiser, just trying to understand the reasoning.

Everyone has to do their part, if the boat owner doesn’t tie up properly then chances are it wasn’t the wakes fault. However I have seen bow-eyes and cleats pulled through fiberglass, heavy duty dock cleats explode, and marina slips ripped apart because of careless boaters.

Some of us are way overthinking this. If I see boats fishing backwaters, I slow down. If it’s the main channel, not so much.

If I see canoes or kayaks anywhere, I slow down. People in the water, etc

If I see red bouys, I assume it’s a hazard of some kind, or some structure to fish even.

Flooding on the sippi a few years back. The Last Resort manager didn’t open the garage doors and when a cruiser came by, bent and broke the garage doors to an unusable condition.

Water Patrol was contacted and they came back to see the damage. He paid for two new garage doors or he would of recieved a ticket. I spose he could of argued his case in front of a judge, possibly even won. But that’s time off from work…maybe he could of afforded that since he paid with cash(?)

Personally I think the doors should have been left open for water to move in and out of the garage, more so since I told him that was standard practice.

Who’s at fault here? The law says the guy that made the wake.

I think this post went a little off track. All of us are reasonable people. We respect marinas and special situations. Just not the random nut job that decides to declare their shoreline off limits for no good reason. I see this on the lake my cabin is on and people generally just ignore them.

I’d blatantly ignore them. Plain and simple. The buoys mean nothing. If someone yells because you’re inside the buoys fishing or running on plane…kill em’ with kindness (smiles, blowing kisses, a subtle cheers, tip of the hat). That will bother them far more than the pi$$ing match or arguing they’re hoping for.

Danger to navagation. Them’s the magic words. I’m thinking if you need a new boat just run into one of illegal buoys. The owner of said buoy would be responsible for all damages. Probably a PITA but in the end you would win.

    Quick update.
Stopped a sheriff’s boat on the water yesterday and met the deputy I spoke with. He confirmed they’re all illegal buoys. His update was that the conservation officers are finding the owners, explaining the process to add a buoy legally to them and more than likely having the owner remove them until done correctly. I’m hoping to see them removed in a few weeks. I did get the impression they’re acting on my complaint, however they are taking a path of least resistance with the lake shore owners for PR purposes it would seem. It also seems like an approach that should nip this in the butt more long term, I hope.

Nice gentleman, he spent an hour at Prescott landing yesterday helping people load on the dock as it was getting quite busy.

I was there for that one. I think that the main point was that the whole stretch of river was at no-wake at that point and the guy came through with a tuna boat doing 3/4 throttle. It shook everything up at the resort.
