Had a friend build an ice rod for me. I would like to have a spring bobber on it while hole hopping for panfish. I would also like to take it off when fishing other species. For reference here is the last eye with penny and fine for comparison. Thanks Shawn.

Try putting a Frabill Titanium bobber on your pole. Adjustable, durable, sensitive, and easy on/easy off. A cheaper alternative would be using a Bic Lighter spring with a piece of shrink tube.

Adding a St Croix spring bobber is relatively easy.

    They offer multiple stiffness too.

Freeze up is not too bad

Well now to shop spring bobbers.

I’m assuming the best, would be to go too a rod building place and see what they have on had to fit the rod with a removable spring bobber? Thanks.

I don’t have the instruction, but you might be able to search for the exact eyelet you need to install the St Croix bobbers

If I remember correctly it is a number 8 one legged eye that is used to hold a 1/8″ ID rubber grommet. The St Croix Spring Bobber slides into the Grommet. I have pics of the ones that I made some where.

You can also find clone springs on Ebay much cheaper.

Just seen the last 2 replys. Thanks, blood and nutz.

Nutz, if you have a pic of how this works that’s great. waytogo

As always your tipdowns (old wood) work great. That’s all I have. No PVC ones, so cannot comment on those. Thanks.

I think I still have the instructions, probably from icenutz, on my fridge…

I’ll take a look and post if they’re still there

    Do it yourself
    1 – #8 single foot guide
1 – 1/8″ OD rubber grommet from hardware store
1 – St Croix spring bobber
    Super Glue
    Epoxy
Insert rubber grommet into guide, will be tight but will fit. Super glue the rod guide to the tip of your rod. Once it is super glued into position mix the epoxy and glue it permanently in place or wrap with rod wrap then finish. You may want to run a 1/8″ drill bit through the grommet by hand to ream it out just a bit so the spring moves easier.
