Hello all. Last evening I got sprayed by a skunk while running traps. I don’t think I smell too badly anymore but my truck seat is another story. I normally have a pile of old blankets that I put down on my seats when I get dirty, but used them all while coon hunting a night or so before. Anyways, any advise on how to get the odor out of the seats? They are cloth. Thanks!

Get ahold of a salvage yard and get a different seat if it an option

As much as i wish there was a simple solution – THERE ISN’T!. All good advise above.
Keep in mind that skunk essence is an oil. Especially having cloth seats, you most likely will never get it all out. Those damp, muggy summer days will remind you every time.

    My formula that I use
    1 quart hydrogen peroxide
    1/4 cup baking soda
2 table spoons DAWN dish soap (don’t use cheap imitation)
For heavily soaked areas, rub with oatmeal to absorb

Also found brake cleaner and engine degreaser to work in some applications
As always, if your using on cloth, do a test area to see if this will dye/fade/discolor the fabric.

Wasn’t there a Seinfeld episode about BO in a car? ;-)

Randy’s formula is what I’ve used on dogs to good effect but think your back’s going to be against the wall when it comes to a car seat.

Check with your local vet. I believe that they have a spray that will get rid of the smell. They use it on dogs that haven’t learned not to play with the black and white kitty kats.

Glenn Beck has been talking on his radio show about how a skunk fell into his window well and sprayed like crazy. They are still working on getting the smell out. People told him to use some stuff that they use when they find a dead body somewhere. I am sure a quick google search would find it.

I had a dog that got sprayed many years ago that jumped in the truck. After trying several “remedies” I just replaced the seats.

I’ve had traps that were sprayed, and thats steel – not cloth. After cleaning with degreaser and soaking in vinager, the smell never goes away. Made a mistake a few years ago and dropped a trap that was sprayed/clead into boiling logwood dye. Only took about a minute for the aroma of skunk essence to fill the air.

    Know anyone who reupholsters seats??

I’m actually learning to enjoy the odor. Lol. I even got compliments at work today after driving my old girl to work. Thanks all.
