Sorry if this was already discussed and I missed it, but just saw in the Anoka County Shopper that Sportsman’s Warehouse will be opening in the old Sports Authority location in Riverdale in Coon Rapids! No date was listed, but still good news.

It’s a start. Over here in the forest lake area, Gander mtn closed and is now gonna be a Gander outdoors.
Oh boy…….
February 14, 2018 at 3:09 pm #1752406Great news for me, not my favorite place but still better than Gander.
Thanks Opie

February 14, 2018 at 3:40 pm #1752420I’ve been in the Gander Outdoors in Lakeville a few times and so far I’m impressed with their fishing department selection and pricing.

Same.
Good to hear about sportsman’s warehouse, I always liked going there.
February 14, 2018 at 3:48 pm #1752425Always good to have another toy store in the area. Hopefully they put one south of the river as well!
February 14, 2018 at 5:29 pm #1752446I also liked the one that was in St. Cloud. Bought my first bow there back in the day. Was awhile ago back when browning made bows.
basseyesPosts: 2509February 14, 2018 at 6:55 pm #1752471Good deal. What I liked is they carried some different inventory than the typical Minnesota stores.
February 14, 2018 at 7:04 pm #1752475If they open one on the East side again, I would apply for a door greeter position!! (if they provided the chair of course)
I love that place.
February 14, 2018 at 7:13 pm #1752481I don’t know what the current Sportsman’s Warehouse stores are like, but when they went through bankruptcy in 2009 they were taken over by a private equity group. The company went public in 2014. I hope the new stores are like the old ones – the store in Woodbury was pretty great back in the day.
Interesting side note: the founder of SW lost everything and apparently now owns olive oil stores.
February 14, 2018 at 7:19 pm #1752484Thanks for that update. I thought it was odd that a fella living in WI would keep a few stores out West.

Any relation to this guy?

Totally agree. I STILL miss the Woodbury store. I actually bought way more from them than I bought from Gander. For one thing, their ammo prices were on the same level as Fleet Farm and they had very reasonable prices on name brand outdoor clothing.
I hope the trend continues with these stores opening. from what I recall reading, the major mistake was just massive over-expansion and a failed computer inventory system that sucked up millions of dollars and never worked.
Grouse
February 15, 2018 at 11:08 am #1752614That was the word I heard too Grouse.
One of the managers explained their pricing to me. It was marked up a certain % over what they paid for it. It didn’t matter what MSRP was.
I don’t recall what the % was.The people on the floor were like car salesman. They watched for a customer and asked them if they could help them. It was great.
When they had a complaint they did everything in their power to put a smile back on their faces and keep them as customers. It reminded me of so many other successful stand up business.
