Bought some 1/16 custom jigs and spins and 1/32 kastmaster spoons. Anyone have success with them? Are the 1/16th slender spoons too big for bluegill? I’ve only fished with jigs before.

They’re not too big if your gills are big enough! yay

Bluegill may have rather small mouths, but they are willing to bite/peck at lures. So if they take a hook point, then it’s fish on.

This is where doing a dropper hook rig on a spoon makes a lot of difference with hook up ratio. Even the additional split ring chain makes a small difference. I like to have like a half an inch to an inch of line tied for my dropper hook rig.

Yes they will eat the 1/16”. I use the gold with glow for gills. Not sure why but they love that color. Have had buddies jigging the silver slender spoons right next to me and catching nothing but crappie, and I’m using the gold right next to them only catching nothing but bluegills.

There was an episode on In Depth couple years ago they were using flash champ spoons for bluegill. Flash champ, slender spoons and kastmaster all will work.

I have had luck with all three for bluegill. Have a rod rigged up with small tungsten tubby and you have a great one two punch.

I use the 1/16oz slender spoons quite a bit for gills and crappies. I swap out the small treble hook for a smaller size shrimpo jig/tail (#10 maybe?), it makes unhooking gills a lot easier too

The slender spoon in the 1/16oz size is one of my go to lures. Especially in the spring ice out stage. Both sunfish and Crappies will hammer them

I caught alot of good gills and crappie last year on pink firetiger glow rattle kastmaster tipped with spikes. Lindy frosty spoon red, and clam pink and gold not sure of the name. All the smallest sizes and tipped with spikes. Game changer

You would be surprised at what a Bluegill will fit in its mouth let alone attack hard enough to get hooked! toast

I really like the tingler spoon for bluegill.
