    I wouldn’t go higher than a #3 ring.

The Texas Tackle split ring pliers have worked well for me.

They make two models, I have the standard model.

Articles I have read suggest using slightly larger than std ring so the hook dances more when you jig it.

Check out Scheels or Mills Fleet in Waite Park. Mills also has a bulk fishing tool area right off to the left when you walk in that has $5 split ring pliers. They work fine.

Really, it shouldn’t matter all that much what ring a person uses, just as long as it doesn’t allow the hook to slip back through it, and it’s stronger than the 4-10lb line ice anglers use with spoons, which it will be.

VMC rings are generally what I buy. Just match the size with what’s on the spoon already.

I like the Mustad fastach clip. They come in different sizes and work nice for changing hooks and also work nice for using minnow heads. Slip the treble off push it through minnow head and reconnect. Head cannot fall off. They are hard to find in my area.

Yes those are from the original manufacturer. I think Mustad bought them out. I use size 0 on most all small spoons and 1’s on walleye spoons.

Totally misread your original post, my bad.

Hope you find the correct size for your application.

I seen that on a infisherman video, looked like a slick idea, also have seen some use a fluorocarbon leader material, maybe a option too.
