If I’m using a snap like a Fast Snap or Cross Lock is it better to hook it to the split ring or direct to the lure?

    I would go direct with a snap/lock.

As I recall, I always thought they said to put it in the directly to the lure either way, with a snap or line.

not to derail the thread, but what is up with the split rings pulling apart?? anyone have this problem besides me???

I have had this happen twice this year, once on a rapala, and once on a bass pro wanna be lure, one pulled apart on a twenty plus eye,and the other gave way on a forty inch plus northern.

the one on that failed on an eye was the rapala dancer series, the other one,a bass pro look alike pulled apart on a northern that would of been my pb,it was caught on the center hook and let go at boat side, when I got the lure in the boat,I swear the ring acted like it had no tempering at all.

I remove the split ring from all of my lipless cranks and either tie direct or quick snap straight to the lure.
