Splash Guard Rubber

Thinking about fabricating some Splash Guards for my Alumacraft. I see that White Cap and others use a rubber for around the motor and kicker areas. Santoprene Rubber is specified by one manufacturer…I see that McMaster has it available.

My question for those that have splash guards…

What thickness is the rubber material ?

I was thinking 1/8 thickness would be stiff enough.
I have access to 1/4″ lexan and a break (I work at a glass shop) and I have HDPE for the bottom channel material.

    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks

Ive made splash guards for several tiller boats.

Ive used 1/8″ and 1/4″ Buna.

The 1/8″ wasn’t sturdy enough to keep the water out when back trolling in rougher water.

If its not going to break the bank, I’d go with 1/4″

If you need ideas you could look online at boats.

A few pictures from my boats:

I got rid of the glass boat 5 years ago and downsized. The new boat is a work in progress. I reinforced the transom last year.
