Spinning Reel/gear ratio for casting cranks

Do the members of IDO prefer a particular gear ratio for casting crankbaits (deep and shallow shads, shallow stick baits, lipless cranks)? I haven’t had a ton of luck casting crankbaits and I’m wondering if the speed of the reel I use may be a factor. Of course I know I can (and do) vary my speeds, but I’m just wondering what you guys use that have good success casting cranks.

Almost all my spinning reels are in the 5.2 / 5.3:1 ratio. Don’t go directly by that though. Each reel size will also have how many inches of line per revaluation because of the size of the spool. I use on average a size 20 or size 25 spinning reel. +/- from there on the application

Ok thanks Randy. Thought about that after I posted.

I personally wouldn’t go any smaller than a 30. Bigger spool makes for better casting distance, and more line coming in. You can always slow down, but its hard to burn all day of that’s what they want.
