Spinners?

Might be a stupid question but has anyone ever tried using a spinner, like a mepps or panther martin, while ice fishing? I am thinking of trying it this weekend but was wondering if anyone has done it in the past.

How were you planning on working the bait? The reason I ask is the primary function is the blade spinning. Without consistent movement the blade won’t spin so no vibration and much less flash.

I don’t see it working but give it a shot. Best case you’ll have a secret no one else really uses. Worst case, you use up some time experimenting.

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. A spinner is essentially a spoon. Might get hung up on itself from time to time but what spoon doesn’t sometimes? Better than nothing.

Yeah I’m gonna give it a shot tomorrow. I will update with results!

Never really thought of that, only issue I can think of is getting a lot of tangles when you’re jigging it up and down, since they’re kind of designed to turn in whichever direction they’re going, if you know what I mean.

    Yes, it works too.
Watched a buddy use one on LOTW this winter with good results.

The typical light up/down jigging motion you’d use on a spoon should flare the spinner blade. I wouldn’t be overworking it.

    Absolutely works.

Dug out a bunch of my small inline spinners for a weekend fishing trip beginning of the month.

My buddy hooked his camera up to the TV in his wheel house so we could see what the lures did.

As mentioned raise up, lower the rod and the blade flutters on its trip down.

No issue with tangles at all.

Caught a few perch doing this.

The way Lake Trout chase a bait upwards, I think it would work well.

I did try the spinners this weekend. I got a few bites but no takers. But the crappies we were catching were all super small. Still, was happy that something was interested in it.
