With winter almost out the door, its time to think about some spring bass fishing. What would be the first go-to lure you would use on river systems this time of year for bass-mainly smallies? I gotta find something other than cigar sized walleyes to catch on the wisconsin river My gut instinct would be to burn traps and stuff over slower current areas and shallows, but then again somethin says drop shot or shaky heading. Which way do I go????

Probably a way to locate some fish, but you can’t beat a jerkbait or fluke most days or a jig and trailer. I just usually fish slow though.

Swim jigs and Tubes are my go to baits for early season river bass.

If you have never fished a swim jig or are looking for one to try. Give the ones made by RC tackle a try. They are one of the best that I’ve found.

I fish swimming jigs all the time in the summer, just not this early on.

I’ve had good success with the smaller sized X-Rap in April. That and a grub on a jighead are always strung on my poles.

I agree with the small xraps and a curl tailed grub on a light jighead. Small profile’s are good.

Prespawn I’ve changed to bigger #10 X Raps and Husky Jerks…We can’t fish bass here until the last Sat in May… Go to Finesse lures are 4″ natural color tubes and Senkos.
