Pflueger President Low Profile. I believe its about 129.99 or something like that. Awesome casting reel all around. I love the Pflueger Trion for crankbaits and chatterbaits. I also love the brake system that are in them! Easy to figure out and operate. Spend a little more, and the Patriarch is gold!!!!!!!

If you can’t tell I’m a little biased. As long as you don’t buy a Diawa…or shimano

I have the quantum accurist PT and love mine. I really dont think you can go wrong with quantum. Idk if cabelas still has the catalyst PT on sale for $80 but if they do go with that, very smooth reel

I will second the Pflueger President. I have two of them and they’ve never given me any grief. I think I understand what you me by cabin fever, it’s -28 with the wind chill down here in Iowa. All work and no play makes Steve a dull boy.

You know I have been a die hard Quantum guy Jon…but I am open to opinions. The U S Supercaster 800 really intrigues me too at $119…but there arent many out there fishin em yet.

When I started using low pro baitcast reels I bought the Quantum PT from my experiance the guts would fall apart in the quantum since I bought a Shimano curado I will stand behind Shimano all the way they hold up I’ve had the same curado for 9 years and still cast like a dream and smooth and this reel has provin its self to me 2nd opinion Abu Garcia low pro built like a tank I use to run Abu Tournament pro with 80lb power pro on a 7’6″ teL fliping stick crank the drang down and launch a tournament frog a mile

Just got a Kinetic PT over winter break and that thing seems very smooth! Will have to wait a little bit obviously to give her a go, but can’t see where it will go wrong.. Like Jonny mentioned earlier, the Catalyst’s are a steal for $80 at Cabelas if they are still available!

Have tried less expensive and more expensive. Have given up trying other casting reels, nothing but curados for me from here out.

    Accurist

I’ve never had a problem with my Quantum reels and that is saying something, considering I don’t take great care of them. In fact I have a Quantum iron that I can’t tell you how old it is, but I can tell you that it is as smooth as the day I bought it.

I think I am also going to give the Quantum Smoke a try this year, although it is a little above the price range you are asking about.

Hmmmm… Anybody want to buy my brand new Accurist Pt? Just bought one, but seeing stuff like this makes me wonder. Crazy how some people can say quantum is so great and then multiple others say they are junk.

I’d Google reviews once you have it pinned down to a few. That’s what I will end up doing before committing to buying a reel.

    For Example

Actually go into each reel user reviews and see exactly what they are saying. Sometimes a review might have 1 customer dragging it down. Make sure you read what they say, because you might discount their reasoning.

Tom, right now I’m looking at the new Lews reels. like the looks of them. Just waiting for the right deal.
here in upstate ny a bunch of guys like the bass pro extreme reels. guys very happy with them, bas pro seems real good about replacing/servicing them.
not heard anything bad about the US reels.
I have not let cabin fever get me yet. haven’t ordered anything in about 6 weeks!
may go to Bass pro on pres day coming up though. ouch…

I checked out the Lew’s reels at the Sports show and was REALLY IMPRESSED! The mid range baitcaster was as smooth as butter for $149…
I would pull the trigger on a US Supercaster 800 in a heart beat if I could find one to handle (just to be sure).

The sad thing is, you never know what a reel is like until you cast it for real, and use it for a year or two. So many of those reels that are unbelievably smooth in the store are awful in the field or don’t last.

I guess the only casting reels I haven’t heard a complaint about were are the Chronarchs and Curados…but they are $300 and $179…

My personal experiences with the Quantum upper end reels has been awesome…but now they are 20-25 years old and starting to wear out!

Does a Zebco count as a Quantum?

I’m a confirmed Curado guy…all Curado, all the time…that said, I was given an Okuma Citrix reel to use for the summer.

So far, this is a great reel…and I’m using it ‘as is, out of the box’…

Just another place to look…has the whiffle spool…7.3:1 gear ratio…
