hit the croix “oceoloe” yesterday for the first time, with a buddy with every intention of nailing a sturgeon…. lol !!
that idea quickly went south we just couldnt pass up this rocky shoreline, cause it had smallmouth written all over it. third cast yeilded this beast and a “PB” for my friend “tom” 4 lbs 1 oz 20 incher.
after realizing we werent in sturgeon waters we focused on bass. we put in alot of work to find a fish here and there, but finally we got them diald in. fishing very shallow waters light and small hair jigs was the ticket.
a little before dark the walleyes put the chew on also!! we iced half a dozen walleye and threw back half a dozen before we decided to keep a few for a meal.
what a cool river system.. its kinda fun putting the skills to the test on new water.
as for the sturgeon… next time i suppose
