I’m going to try to fish some football / roller jigs in the next month. I have rather limited experience with fishing them. What brands of jig heads do all of you prefer? What brand and type of trails do you use on them? What weight do you use most of the time? What is the best Rod/Reel/line setup to fish them one? Any tricks or other tips you care to share. Thanks in advance for all of your thoughts and idea’s.

I’ve used several but these Picasso jigs are really good and on sale right now at LandBigFish.com for only $2.49

My favorite rig is a 7’3″ Med/Hvy XFast Dobyns Champion rod with a Quantum E600Ti baitcasting reel and 14# Crystal Fireline.

The Picasso football jigs are good. My favorite football jig is the Jewel Football Jig. Both are very good jigs.

hey guys, great info tom, just added them to my landbigfish list.
I’ve been using the All terrain jim moyhnah football jig the last 2 years… workks good. has a nice lightweight hook that seems to set itself. been using 3″ chiggercraws as a trailer along with super chunk jr’s. all in brown. I like 12-15# floro for line, real sensitive. when I can get away with it, 20# braid. rods are usually a 6-10 med heavy jigging rod. lotta good rods out there. any longer sensitive rod will get it done. my shopping list has those denny brauer wreckin stix and the big bear rods on it.
last tip and its a biggy. buy lots of jigs! you will loose a ton! enjoy!
