spent yesterday working with the new electronics (Lowrance HDS and LSS-1 SideScan)…trying to get comfortable with operations, best approaches…

Basically used it to find this elusive offshore hump…

    so, here’s this hump…

but what I’m trying hard not to ‘see’ is on the right hand side/bottom just above the ’40’ foot range…sure looks a lot like a flathead…in the estimated 3-foot long range…but it’s probably just a tree, right?

here’s another image taken crossing a creek channel…it’s about 10ft deep at the lips…and drops down to about 20 at the bottom…in addition to the timber, and what looks to be some fish…there seem to be some ‘bowls’ along the lip indicating potential spawning beds?

after I finished playing, I spent some time chasing bass…they didn’t want jig/chunk, ‘traps or suspending jerkbaits…but they’d hit a slowly retrieved spinnerbait in about 3-5 foot down…in 5-8 foot of water…white with gold blades does the trick here with our water clarity…thumpin’ blades…

over half the bites were hooked on the trailer hook…and they were just nipping ‘that’…water temps were 51°F

Have you played much with the downscan?

I have looked at downscan a bit…the images I shared were taken via ‘screenshot’ from recorded ‘bits’ while running (4-5 mph; ‘logging sonar’)…

Lowrance has just released an updated sonar log viewer that when I play these back on…shows all three ‘shots’…
traditional sonar image (taken from the 200 Hz transducer)
Downscan from the new LSS-1 ‘ducer
Sidescan from the new LSS-1 ‘ducer…

here’s one image I took on a small local lake going over a creek channel…sidescan image is biggest, on right…downscan is on top left…’traditional’ image is bottom left…
