smallmouth: preferred tube size

I have a whole bunch of tubes that I use for chasing largemouth…they’re the 3.5-4.0″ double-dipped fat style…

as I prep for chasing smallies on a pre-spawn (one week ahead of expected spawn)…is this a ‘good’ size tube? Or will it’s size impact hook up percentages? limit ‘hits’ from smaller fish?

As I’m taking a kid…I’m wanting to optimize my baits to maximize my fish numbers…

Smallmouth love BPS Tender Tubes! These are a thin bodied 3.5″ Black w/Red Flk is my favorite, but there are tons of color choices.

    I order tubes from Action Plastics. for smallies, try a 2.5″ brown/orange. Qty 100 it’s $20.00, Qty 50 is about $11.00.

Was this the high school motivational trip? If so.. good luck !!!

The 3.5 will work fine. Those fish will be borderline ticked off at that time and any tube under 5″ is toast. I am also coming to the conclusion you can not get bait to big for a smallmouth.

    X2 Johnny…
3.5 is a good average size for smallies but I’ve been fishing 4″ spring/summer and 5″ into fall with good results.
