Long story short I broke my favorite rod last year that I used only for Casting light cranks, Berkley lightning GARY ROACH edition. Is it possible to get a decent one for 100$ or less? Any suggestions? Oh ya for a baitcaster. Thanks.

Berkly has a good history of replacing those lightning rods at a reasonable $$

I would would tube it up and send it back.

    How “broke” is your rod?

Since it’s your “favorite rod” repairing it may be an option to consider. If it’s not too severe of a break, a good rod builder can repair it without changing the rod’s action.

But like Dean said, there are also a lot of good new rods to choose from.

You could check out the St Croix Tidemaster series. Some of those rods make a great light action crank rods. Around $130-$140 though.

The rod was 10+ years old so I never considered having it repaired.

When I said that “a good rod builder can repair the rod that isn’t too severely damaged” I meant a Custom rod builder, not the manufacturer.

I think Berkley’s current rods have a 1 year warranty, so unless your warranty was longer than that, having a 10+ year old rod replaced might be iffy. Maybe best to contact them first before you send it in if you want to see if they’ll cover it or discount a replacement.

    Good luck.

first we need the length and action of the original rod…
I myself like a shorter 6ft med or med light action rod. grab some beer and hit ebay. I had a berkeley ‘Amp’ rod in my hands and liked it. $29.99 for that price its almost disposable! I actually had it side by side with a st croix mojo and 3 of us like the amp better. next time I’m gonna pick up a few…
