Wasn’t that fish caught like 15 months ago. Maybe not, just wondering if it always took that long for official recongnition. TOAD of a bass though.

yes it was – there is normally a 90 day wait from the IGFA, but they took there time in this one…verifying that everything was legit..

He states “I saw a school of 20 pound bass” and thinks he was once hooked into a 28 pounder! Write up in Jan. 2010 Bass Master Mag.

Are largemouth bass a native species in Japan? Just curious.

They are not. They were stocked many years ago after a LOT of effort by several anglers and fishing supporters. I do believe a few years ago, they were classified by Japan Government as “evasive species”, so all bass fishing is catch and kill.

There are some videos on bassmaster.com about this guy. The editor from Bassmaster Mag. does a couple interviews with him. He seems pretty confident he will catch a bigger one.

Considering my luck, I think “evasive” is probably more accurate, whether that’s what he meant or not.

I think I caught 2 largemouth last year, whereas the year before I was in the dozens… I think there was something in the water in 2009, and it wasn’t fish.

To bring this back on topic, though, there’s a bunch of interesting info and some more pics (from before the record was certified) here, kind of a crappy video (but shows him handling the monstrosity) here on YouTube, and some cool stuff here about this record and the IGFA’s process (they made him take a POLYGRAPH!!) here.

    That’s some crazy awesomemsauce, innit???
