lately ive been using berkley 100% fluorocarbon for casting spinnerbaits…the memory on this line has been terrible for casting for me…i like it for flipping and pitching but for casting its been garbage. Im thinking of going to Power Pro cuz i fish it around pads a lot too. wut do u guys prefer? Thanx

I still use 14# mono(for several small reasons) which I’m sure seems ridiculous to most serious bass fisherman but I have no plans to change.

First off, I fish the Mississippi 95% of the time. So water clarity and line shy fish are not a huge issue. Atleast it does not seem to be an issue. Having said this, I fish Power Pro 99% of the time. Lakes, especially clear ones, that is a different story. JMO

    Power pro is fine,
Remember to back off the drag a little, and if you have a rod with a softer tip that would be preferable.

Going from Fluoro to pro you will have to slow your reaction time down a pinch or you will be jerking it away from them all day.
I have had the same frustration with many of the fluoro’s and it seems to me you get a good spool then a crummy one.
    My guess is age.
I spooled berkley in april no issues. just respooled, with new spool, first time out junk. I don’t get it. But I’have had this problem with 3 different brands.

Depends on the rod you are using. Braid would be good if the rod is a bit softer than you’d like, but if it’s a stiff rod, braid is going to make it seem WAY too stiff.

I like 17lb Stren on my spinnerbait rods – good abrasion resistance and enough power to “guide” a 14lb northern out of the pads. It really is a matter of balancing the line with the rod you use, and I’d use PP on the right rod.

I have a hook set that would knock Mike Tyson to the moon, so I get away with mono. But if its a day I must put fish in the boat, Power Pro

Don’t be afraid to try a diff. kind of flouro…like Sugui. I’ve been using it all year on my trap rod for ripping baits thru grass with no memory trouble at all. Don’t forget to give it a good stretch once a month or so!

Fish with what you have confidence in and what you have had success with..I’m pretty sure you would stick with Power Pro in that situation

Suzuki, I’m with you on that. I use 14# mono (Trilene XL) because it simply works and has the least memeory of any line I’ve ever used (other than braids)…

I also use the Trilene Flouro…but stick to 8 and 10 pound strengths. Going higher seems to really accentuate the line memory for me. I use this line for weightless plastics…small cranks…and definitely not afraid to pitch plastics with it into cover..the abrasion resistance is excellent.

Then again, I don’t hesitate to cast to/into cover with the mono either…I just keep an eye on the line for knicks/abrasion and retie as I feel them…

Really don’t lose fish to break-offs much, if at all.

I was a longtime fan of Berkley Sensation in 14 lb. They quit making it this year so I tried one of their other products touted to be abrasion resistant. Memory like steel cable. I think I’ll slide back to Berk XL. 14 lb of course. Nice to make it more challenging by giving them a chance..
If I wanted to winch them out with 60 lb superline I may as well just chuck dynamite into the slop.
