I’m kicking around buying a glass rod for cranks. I’m looking for some feed back from those that have glass rods. Pros, cons, brands, even length and action and is it a smart buy. I’m looking at a 7′ mod. action Lamiglas.

I’d give the Shimano Compre or Crucial crankbait rods a look. They’re TC-4 “composite” meaning they’re a blend of graphite and glass. They’re lighter and more sensitive than glass, and also have a softer more forgiving action than graphite. I have a 7′ med Compre and it’s great for smaller cranks up to 1/2 oz. using 20 lb Fireline. It’s a somewhat “soft” medium so a MH may be better if you want it for larger baits or plan to use it with mono or flourocarbon.

What about a very slow ratio reel? Anybody know where to find the 4:1 old style crankbait reels?
