My wife has been showing interest in fishing a competitive event, so we set up to fish C&R Bass’s Thursday Tourney on Rock Lake. 14 Teams fished. Took a 1/2 day on Thursday as I have not been on Rock Lake since spawning time. Unbelievable how the weeds have grown, down to 15ft of water. Haven’t seen this in 4 years. It took me until about 5pm to find some active fish, I was perfectly prepared for the 6pm to 9pm tourney. At 6 we took off from Sandy Beach, shotgun start with a few bigger bass boats and a few smaller ones, everyone with smiles. Hit my spot as we were the first ones across the lake (Fast Skeeter….) Spent two hours in a place I had just caught 4 fish and only 1 small keeper. Broke one large fish off, didn’t see it, under the boat that kept us there the last 1/2 hour. Lots and lots of shorts and pike, a good time for the wife, but not good for competition. Decided to go to plan B, one of my favorite spots that I had not touched earlier in the day. First cast…16″ Largie. About ten casts later my wife nails a nice 4lb’er. Man was she excited, sounded like Ike on the front of the ZX225. All fish were caught outside weedlines along deep water. Didn’t seem to matter what was thrown, just had to sort for keepers.
Here is a picture of Katie with our two largest fish. Was teasing her that she looks like she is drowning in that hat and jacket, not that I want her to fill them up…. Total weight was 6.93lbs with 3 fish, we were able to weigh our top 4. 12lbs won the event with 10 for 2nd.
Tight Lines.
