Happy 4th Weekend IDO.
Spent Thursday – Saturday up at the in-laws place in Alexandria area. Had to get out and fish some of those smaller lakes for some PIG largemouth bass.
Spent some time with the map and went over to Christopherson’s looking for some local intel. Nice people and good bass and musky tackle shop! Nice to see a real bait shop these days. Way better than Mills, Gander, Cabelas or Wal-Mart. People actually know what they are selling!!!! How refreshing.
Was told of a little lake that is very clear and demands a night-time foray for really big fish. Slop/Frog Fishing in the dark is one of my favorite things to do! So, off to this little 650 acre lake we go. Nice landing, full of stumps and other visible shoreline structure. Nice depth – very close to the weeds and slop. This is looking good!!!!
3 hours and 12 fish. Only one that tipped 4 lbs. Most under 2 lbs. A couple of 3’s. All on the Glow Frog. I love to hear the sound of the toliet flush on a still summer evening!!!!I think this place needs another 30 days. The shoreline weeds are still thickening up. I will be back.
Friday AM- Next stop. Red Rock Lake. Good numbers – no big fish. All in the 2 lb range on worms in the weedlines. Only fished about 4 hours and had to get back to the wife and 6 mo old. Cell phone ringing and was told to “get back here and spend some time with your family!!!!” ( I was spending time with her father?)
Saturday – Lobster Lake for a spinnerbait / chatterbait / swimbait casting mission to see if we couldn’t convince a few muskies to show themselves out of the reed beds. They did follow but nobody wanted to eat. Did catch a few bass but nothing to make me want to come back for the bass fishing. Very dirty water. I do think this has the makings of a Fall stop for some hungry ski’s. They are in there!!!!
Back to Minneapolis and will be out on a City Lake this AM
Hot weather returns!!!! Good for night fishing. The “Dog Days” are almost here.
Tight lines!
