On wed July 1st our bass club fished on Cedar lake in wright county. The night started out slow and ended up the same way. Another multi-species club fished the lake on tuesday night which made conditions even tougher than normal.
We started out fishing on some well known cabbage beds in about 10-12 feet of water and picked up only one fish on a black and blue jig. We then turned our focus to a sunken island that was 12 feet deep on the top surrounded by depths up to 106 feet on one side and 40+ on the other. There were very little weeds present with a harder sandy bottom. We worked this spot for a little more than an hour scoring 3 more fish on a drop-shot rig with a 3 foot dropper.
The next stop was another submerged cabbage bed in about 8 feet of water. We managed to take 3 more fish out of this spot on red eyed shad lipless crankbaits. We did manage to cull out and upgrade a few times but not by much.
The big fish of the night was caught on a drop-shot in 20+ FOW by another team. That fish weighed 3#11oz and won that team $100 dollars, the same team also managed to take first place with a 10# 10oz total weight for 6 fish. Second place came in with 9+ pounds and we finished out the night in 3rd with 8# 7oz.
I still believe that the lake schedule is about 2 weeks behind for where these fish should be and how they should be acting.
Look for another report on tuesday July 7th as we will have fished Rice lake in stearns county. Lets hope the action gets a little better with the more stable weather we have coming our way.
Thanks again and keep them lines tight,
