We fished Maple lake in wright county on monday night for with our bass league. Although the wind was raoring out of the north-west between 18 and gusting to 31mph, our bass club managed to squeek out a few nice bag weights.

The bite was tough thanks to this massive cold front and thunderstorms that came through over the last 36 to 48 hours.

We started out by pitching black jigs with blue trailers in 12-15 feet of water, but after 30 minutes we decided that they were not active enough. I was marking large bait-fish schools out in the main lake in about 32-40 feet of water with large arcs right below them. The bait fish were suspended aroud 12-15 feet down and the larger fish were marked 2-3 feet below that. I rigged up a drop shot rod and proceeded to try my luck at getting some of those big girls to bite.

I tied up a #8 red stand out hook with a 3/8oz drop weight on a 30-36″ dropper. I tipped the rig with a 5″ manns hardnose stick bait. On my first drop I hooked up with a nice fish and could not wait to see what it was. We managed to land the first fish of the night at 8:00pm and she was a beauty. 3# 12oz largemouth which on any tournament or league night is a good quality fish. We continued to fish the deep water and pulled 3 more 3+ pounders which was good enough to land us in 4th place for the night.

There were just 6oz seperating us from 1st place which weighed in 20# 4oz for a 6 fish bag limit.

Look for another report on thursday July 2nd as I will have info on Cedar lake in wright county.

Thank you for reading my post and please let me know what your thoughts.

Drop shotting those deep fish sounds like an excellent adjustment during a tough bite.

Im not usually a bass guy but if im out that way bass fishing I will put the boat in to fish just one spot on that lake. It is a deep weedline that puts out big fish. I will fish it for a half hr and leave. Man I love that spot
