One of the techniques that I want to work on this summer is Fishing football / Roller jigs for summer Bass. I’ve not tried this technique much and the few time I have I’ve had rather limited success. I would be interested in hearing what brand and size jig all of you use and what type of a trailer you use on your setups. I’d also like to find out when and where is the best place to fish them or any other idea’s or thoughts you all have on them. Thanks in advance for all of your responses.

if you are just starting out i would use a 1 ounce jig because it has the best feel and you will know your going over the right stuff. so,far i only know of all-terrain to have a 1 ounce. i mostly use a 3/4 ounce and sometimes go with a 1/2. i like both the all-terrain and outkast jigs. they both use the same hooks except outkast also have a wide gap model. trailer is whatever you like.

I like to use a picasso 3/8 oz or 1/2 ounce in a crawdad looking color….i put a rage craw on that for a trailer and that has been pretty dynomite for me this year so far. I like to use it on deep rocks and big dropoffs or a deep wood bank….you get a lot better feel for the bottom and it gets down there really fast so the current cant take it as much. good luck

I mainly use Roller’s when the fish have moved out to mid summner late spring deep rocks. I agree with using a 1oz to start. You want to make sure you know where and what the jig is on. With that be sure to use a line that will easily transmit feed back. Depending on water clarity I’ve either used Power Pro or Seaguar Floro.

As for meat. I’m a big fan of the yamamoto twin tail grubs. I use them with and without skirts.

Good luck. It’s a fun method once you’ve figured it out.
