    Ribbit Video

A couple things I would add after watching this video…..Pike can’t ignore them either

When fishing weed mates I like to make a cast past open pockets or blow up holes, this gives a guy a chance to let that frog sink below and at times it will produce that awesome thud we all like to feel on the end of the stick Dropping it once getting to the edge of a weed mate can produce the same bite.

But the best is just like in the video……buzzing across the top of the weed mate/water waiting for the blow up

On my lake I get more pike on topwater than bass during the summer. I dont know how many mfg’s have floating plastic frogs but the one I use works awsome. Floating Seizmic Toad. I also use their regular sinking frogs. There are so many out there I’m sure everyone has their favorites.

In my opinion i think the rage shad and the rage toad make a lot more noise and are better baits than the ribbit frogs….the only downfall of the rage is that they will rip fairly easy…both good baits tho

It is still cheaper to buy the plastic frogs by the dozen than to buy Spro’s or other hollow body frogs only to be garbage after one dog fish or pike strike

I like to have an assortment of the different styles. The one thing I don’t do is get caught up in colors because my personal opinion, it is more of a contrast thing according to sun or no sun. I like to have plenty of white on hand and a dark color such as black or purple. When picking a color I try to imagine laying on the bottom and visualizing what it might look like staring up looking for food.
Dark days I would think that white would give me a better target as on sunny days the dark colors would show up better while looking into the sun.

Just all theory but it is what has been working for me

I’m with you there and before they were around, for me, the Zoom horny toad…don’t like those paddle style frogs…

Toads are toads, frogs are frogs, two completely different animals when it comes to baits. It’d be like comparing a trap to a dt…just not the same bait. Regardless of the comparison I know a guy can go thru 2 packs of horny toads in a day pretty easily, which equals one spro. Nice part about the spro is that if it tears, you can super glue it back together and it holds. Just my 2 cents.

you can also glue back together those toads…

my personal preference has always been the Horny Toad…they just seem to catch more fish for me on ‘my’ waters…think the softer, more subtle ‘buzz’ doesn’t put as many fish down as the Rage Tails…

and like Bret said, don’t overlook the ‘stop/drop’ or even dead-sticking these baits… they’re exceptionally versatile…
