As it is getting closer to my favorite bass fishing time of the year. I thought I’d make a post to find out what some of all of your favorite baits are to use when dropshoting and also to find out what length of a dropper do you usually tie. I will start the post by giving you my favorites. Most of the time I use either a Zoom noodle or small stick worm, I’d say about 75% of the time I wacky rig the bait and the other 25% I just end hook it. The most common drop length I use is between 12-18 inches. I’d also like to hear about any special tips you have found to work for you while dropshoting. Thanks in advance for all of your thoughts and responses.

4″ roboworm FX Sculpins or yamamoto flat tails. Never wacky rigged em, but I should probably try that sometime. 12-14″ dropper with a 5/16 weight 90% of the time. I usually fish the rig semi vertically targeting fish that I am looking at on the locator.

I found that using Gulp Leeches/minnows seem to work the best for smallies. Usually my dropper is 18″ or so…

I’d never tied a drop shot rig in my life until just the other night…thought I’d give it a whirl to coax some inactive crappies I had located off the break. No dice. Later that evening I was onto a pretty decent walleye bit (jig/minnow). Moments before dark, I lost my jig and rather than re-tie, I grabbed the pole with the drop shot rig…I lipped a small shiner and sent it over-board. Within a minute I was landing a nice 15 incher.

    Seemed to work rather slick.

As for length, all depends on what I want to achieve. Besides the shaking action, I like to drag them with a heavier weight, so I am go as long as 36″. I also do a lot of drop shotting specific for certian types of weed patches. There, I set it for 4 to 6″ above the weeds. Around rocks, about a foot.
