BC and I headed up to the Eagle River area this weekend for some sight fishing smallmouth fun. Saturday was a bit tough b/c of 35mph winds, but Sunday was dead calm and we had a blast.

We focused on smallies in the 6-10 ft range as they seemed to be a little bigger in size. It’s amazing to be able to watch all the action unfold as you coax a smallie into taking your senko.

Here are a few pics – we caught fish like this at will….and for any nay-sayers out there – just know that these were 99% males and all returned to the same bed that we caught them on..unharmed…We know this b/c we watched them go right back.

If you’ve never tried this – find a lake that has this type of opportunity and give it a go. It is by no means easy either…boat control, boat “sneakyness”, presentation, wind, sun, glasses are all key elements….it’s the only time you really get to see a fish react to the baits you’re throwing to it…..and it’s blast

Below are some pics of the fish we were catching.

Why did BC catch all the cool colored smallies??

I really like thos lighter fish, bright red eyes and dark stripes. When I catch one over 20, it will get a replica made of it.
