Mudline Activity………..

While back I got a little windy talking about the “edge”. Perfect example of one type of “edge” yesterday between a couple shots of rain. Surface activity was congregated along this wavering line. With every intention of hunting down some prespawn crappie on the move I ran into a few active bass hanging on the clear-er side of the mud line. We’ll call these guys “sippi-axe” bass hungry for Pumpkinseed. Floating a crappie minnow 2′ down was too much to resist for a couple smaller smallies along this confluence area but the bigger fish was taken on the Pumpkinseed. Confluence areas typically make for some good water when visibility levels rival that of babbling blind man on the big water. Struck out on the crappie. With that I dumped 3″ of morchella power-aide out of the gauge this morning. Accumulative since Saturday AM with the lions share coming late yesterday.

Nice looking smallie Bos! At least you stuck it out and found some active fish between the storms. i suppose you’re going to send all that mud down my way and screw my fishing up for a few days. I guess i could always chase some cats, they always seem to bite when the water is the worst. Dan

I’ll pass the buck upstream. Bret & Mike did it.

Yea it’s going to be a mess for a while again.

My rain gauge read just shy of 4 1/2″ this morning up on the ridge – and that’s for the whole weekend. Dangit

Yeah….the Root river coming in up on 8 is far from kind to the water clarity levels on 9. Upper Iowa dumping in here on 9 just adds injury to insult. Poor fellas below Prairie have to contend with the Wisconsin & Little Maquoketa too!

Dont forget the Turkey River down here. If theres a rain cloud over iowa the river turns brown . I’ll have to check out the river tomorrow and make a damage assesment.

Where does the little Maquoketa dump in at?

The little Maqouketa dumps in just south of Mud lake on the southern end of pool 11. I’ve never tried to get in there, i know theres a huge stump field where in comes in. theres a big mud and sand flat that in places is 3 or 4 foot deep. this can be a really good early season bass spot. usually the weeds come in first there.
