I was thinking about getting one but….I’ve heard and read review about the carrot stix being bad quality and breaking fairly easy…they cant be that bad tho if guys like Boyd Ducket and Terry Scroggins use them? Anyone own one or know much about them? thanx guys.

We had a couple of them last Sept on Erie and St Claire rigged for drop shotting. I’m not saying they are a bad rod by any means. Just had a different feel to them. I missed a number of fish while prefishing, so I changed back to my regular rods and left them in the hotel. I suggest if you know anyone that has them, borrow one for a day. The guy I borrowed them from loves them. I personally wouldn’t buy it. Comes down to liking the feel. Not as sensitive as I would prefer.

Loomis med/Heavy & Heavy IMX and Kistler rods.

If your in the market for at least one high end flipp’in rod, I would go with the new Kistler Helium LTX. They’re about 350, but awesome rods! The modulas is woven instead of wrapped. Super strong rods!

Your money would be better spent on a St. Croix (rather than the Carrot Stix, that is, I think the Kistlers are Batson blanks). My buddy does technical analysis of rods and rod blanks and he has found that a lot of the hype is just that, hype.

i have one that i use for senkos and i love it. i got it early last fall so i havent had but a month or two to try it out. my other rods are all high end croixs, with a few other brands like kistler and loomis ect. the carrot stik is way lighter than even my ledgend elites or the loomis. i think for a 150 its not a bad deal

Ive kind of stranded from using kistlers for flippin…in heavy cover atleast. They just seem to be way to soft..especially the kistler magnesium i have. I got the 7 ft heavy jig N toad special..I thought it was gonna be a stiff rod so I could pull fish out of junk but nuh uh…idk why the action is so light

Light is one thing, a good thing, but you need to keep that in comparison to the stiffness.

The performance goal is to have the lightest rod for a given power.

They market how light their rods are but we’ve seen that their rated powers are less stiff than a comparable St. Croix.

When you measure the stiffness and do a comparison on like rods, then you don’t see the weight differential.

I ahve been looking at the 7 fto 2 inch parabolic casting rod for crank baits. I was wondering if anyone has used this rod as I have not been able to put my hands on one. Thanks Rick

carrot stix are a glorified glass rod. not quite ‘glass” but not really the performance of graphite.. and if you are paying that kind of money.. it should have the feel of a top notch GRAPHITE ROD. and its not..

    but its getting the hype..

but the truth is, IF IT WAS WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE, you wouldn’t have to ask a question about it, everyone, and I mean everyone, would be talking about it.

even in California, it was not being talked about.. nothing.. and nothing on the bass fishing home page as well.

but think about this 20 years ago, or less St. Croix was available outside of the midwest and was a company on the brink of extinction.. and they decided to change..

Now, ST. CROIX IS THE ROD OF CHOICE EVERYWHERE.. where ever I have been, its WE HAVE ST. Croix.. Alabama, California, where ever.. and the guys all over the country talk about it..

    that’s a simple truth..

From all of the rod measurements my friend has done, there really isn’t a manufacturer out there that can blow a St. Croix out of the water. There are quite a few that are competetive. You’ll see that in certain powers/actions, one rod or another can be a little better but St. Croix Rods are pretty tough to beat.

After this, I think you need to look at other portions of the rod design and probably even more important, customer service. It’s hard to beat good old midwestern customer service.

That said, I really like G. Loomis’s no questions asked warranty. I actually don’t know if St. Croix has something similar since I’ve never broke one (the Loomis’s I broke were my fault, I’m pretty sure).

One thing that irks me is when there is a whole lot of misinformation and I stay away from the MARKETECTURE type companies, and Carrot Stix is one of those for sure. I think they make a decent rod but for the same money or even more I’ll take a St. Croix any day.
