I’ve been using power pro for quite a few years now and am always looking for the latest and greatest product. I can say that i’m pleased with the pp and have never had a problem. I’ve seen they have a rounder braid out there. I saw fireline has a new line out and i was just curious what are some of the new lines out. Thank you, dan

I have some of the Suffix braid and it performed really well on big largemouth in Mexico! highly recommend it
February 26, 2009 at 6:07 pm #752788Hey JD, I am and always will be a Power Pro fan, on all of my poles. I seen that Fireline has a new braid out that you may wanna try, but as far as good braids go, I think Power Pro is the line for me!
February 26, 2009 at 6:12 pm #752792Suffix is what power pro is after about two days on the water. suffix is like it is already broken in its great stuff altough I still have Power pro on many of my rods too!
February 26, 2009 at 8:02 pm #752858power pro day in and day out is the best braid of any that Iv’ed used it stands up to a lot of abuse just don’t use too small of line for a situation I fished with a guy slop fishing 12 lb and he couldn’t figure out why he was breaking line when he got hooked up in rough stuff it’s only 2,lb dia not enough strands to stand up to getting roughed up, now for open water walleyes it works real good. Spiderwire Ultracast is a good second choise we used suffix braid but it didn’t stand up too kinks very well it would break way up from the bait on hook sets ect. not fun chashing your line around to catch a fish in a tournement that was the end of that line. Tore it off my reel within three weeks and reloaded with SuperBraid. I guess it is all about personal preference and what you are used to. Could have got a bad batch also I guess….

YEP!
February 27, 2009 at 2:37 am #753023I think we have an agreement that Power Pro is the way to go. I love it and dont plan on changing anytime soon.
February 27, 2009 at 2:59 am #753033I like power pro…havnt really tried much else tho…you use fluorocarbon on any of ur rigs JD?
February 28, 2009 at 1:00 am #753348I use alot of spider stealth on all of my baitcasters, I don’t seem to have a problem with it, untless I don’t have the reel tuned to the bait. I tried PP and lost 4 baits.

February 28, 2009 at 5:37 pm #753488Love pp but i have a problem with it getting very tight underneath the spool making it hard to cast longer any tips or am i doing something wrong
March 7, 2009 at 11:56 pm #755944figured that most folks here would be fans of powerpro.
For those of you that have indicated PowerPro as your braid of choice, have you tried Suffix? If so, what were the relative negatives…
Am asking as I’ve used Suffix for a couple of years now…really like it for specific applications …and have been so pleased with it that I’ve never tried Power Pro…
Just wondering what I’m missing?
photocyclePosts: 7March 24, 2009 at 5:54 pm #762065I hate powerpro… I use to use it.. got sick and tired of the waxy material and how flat the line can become. Switched over to Suffix 2 years ago and never looked back. Suffix is round and stays round and dry.
This year I’m going to try Pline’s braid. Slightly cheaper but have heard great reviews.

Waxy and flat? You were using PowerPro? I can honestly say I have never heard anyone have the kind of experience with it, especially the waxy aspect. I guess I’m really curious what you meant by flat, but if you’re saying the line changed shapes then that’d also be a first to me. I guess I don’t use very heavy line but a few times a year (65lb+) when I musky fish, but I’ve used 20 and 30lb quite a bit on both spinning and baitcasters and that stuff holds its texture and stays limp for 2+ years on my reels (I usually respool backwards each year).

Agree again. Can’t be power pro.

March 24, 2009 at 11:49 pm #762143I used the 30 lb Suffix braid down in MX and it performed very well. I am a fan of PP also. haven’t tried the Suffix in the lighter line weights yet..
jwallPosts: 50March 25, 2009 at 2:10 am #762201Power Pro is not “waxy” you must be mistaken on what brand you had.
photocyclePosts: 7March 25, 2009 at 2:35 pm #762367weird… I was at sportsman’s warehouse yesterday and was touching the powerpro spools there and it doesnt feel like what it felt 2 years ago… maybe it was a different brand?
It felt pretty good. Was tempted to purchase again and test it out, but I can’t because I should have some new Pline braid coming in soon.
March 25, 2009 at 4:08 pm #762431staying on the braided subject…who all here uses braided line for flipping? I think its real sensitive and u can feel everything with it…but is fleuorocarbon or fleuorocarbon coated line the way to go for flippin…? This question has been eatin away at me for a while now

90% of minnesota waters, can’t go wrong with braid. 20-40lb braid (low-vis green). Most of our waters are murky green or dirty.
Now if your fishing a southern lake/river/reservoir with 15+ ft water clarity, then that might be a different story.
I use mono/fluro for open water and braid for everything relating to heavy cover (thick matte weed, pads, brush, wood, etc…)
I don’t think there’s any tests out there that’ll prove fluro can outfish braid while flippin’ n pitching. Till then, braid is my preference.
my 2 centz
March 25, 2009 at 6:50 pm #762497some of the bass elite guys use 17-20 floro for pitching or flipping lighter weeds, some guys still use it in the heavy stuff, I have been chewing that same decision, just trying to decide if floro is the right line for me, some guys swear by it, and some are true mono guys, I use mono for everything not heavy cover related and even on one of my pitcing rod, I have 17pound mono of for docks and stuff like that.

photocyclePosts: 7March 25, 2009 at 8:52 pm #762542I used fluro heavily for the past 2 years — It works great, less stretch and stronger than mono. Although, the applications I mainly used it for was open water, didn’t do a whole lot of flippin’n pitching (stuck with braid). Reason why I’m backing out is due to price. Fluro is awesome but your looking at $20 bucks a spool (for the good brands). Got too expensive that’s why I started looking at alternatives (Pline – flouroclear – mono with fluro coating).
March 25, 2009 at 11:56 pm #762631Do you think you can feel just as much with fleuoro as you can braid?

no. not even close.

I personally think braid still has better sensitivity because of the no stretch and smaller line diameter.
Even with fluro, you still run into stretches, abrasion, etc… so you do have to constantly check your line and retie. With braid, I almost always tie just once… when I retie again, it’s because I’m tying on something else.
March 26, 2009 at 6:07 pm #762890Flipping brush sometimes braid sucks as it wraps around the stick far more easily. I don’t know that some stretch in a flipping situation is always a bad thing either.
I love braid for heavy weeds, but prefer flouro in wood.
