I was hoping to plan a Bass fishing trip for my dad and myself to mexico for this spring or next winter. Has anyone been to one of the Mexico Bass lakes? What time of year is the best? I have heard mixed reports from people on if they would do it again or if it was worth the cost. I would just like to hear some of your thoughts and ideas. Thanks in advance for all of your responses.

I went to Guerrero in 2006 and am going back in three weeks. We had numbers but only 3 fish over 8 lbs. The water is high there now and I have heard the fishing is really good but that’s the lodge owner talking. I don’t care. It’s 5 days in Mexican sunshine and the drinks are included. I am paying $1050.00 for 3.5 days of fully guided fishing, room, food and drink. That doesn’t include airfare. All in I would say I will drop 2k on the whole trip give or take a couple hundos. I’ve heard that Huites is good and also El Salto. I think they may be more expensive. I can drop you a link the resort I am staying at via PM if you would like.

The trip leader has been down there 3 times since October of ’08 and has been slaying them. He’s provided pictures and he’s had several over 10 lb’s

I would also reach out to Tom Redington- field staff IDO. I believe he runs trips down there along with his Lake Fork TX guide service. I have exchanged pm’s with him and he’s a heck of a nice guy.

One thing to keep in mind is if you go to MX you will have to bring poles and tackle. rod tubes or carriers are considered “oversize” and will cost you $75 each way. that and a $15 dollar checked tackle bag will amount to add’l $90,00 each way. this is based on Sun Country rates out of the Twin Cities. a $300.00 r/t ticket turns into $480.00 real quick
