I fished in the early RedMan Bass tournaments near Prarie Du Chein in the early 1970s…Now 35 years later a good frien Herb Samme’, persuaded me to come out of retirement…Conditions were very very tough… late summer transition coupled with severe cold front and heavy cold rains. Fishing a reservior that I hadn’t fished but a few times.
But I knew from my other guide trips that the Bass were on deep points, mid lake humps amd weedlines. I worked finesse tubes most of the day and it paid off.
I won the 2008 UPTRA Bass tournament Biggest Bass category yesterday… ($350 cash) with this 5lb 1oz beauty! My partner Herb drew a blank all day… We finished 11th out of 36 teams. She took a 4” tube on the edge of a deep water cabbage patch. Quite a battle on 6# test…but the 7’ blue St Croix “Tube” rod brought her to the net! I had a great time and plan on fishing a few more next season!
